Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 15, 2026

Privacy in one sentence: CleanOS analyzes files and system information locally on your Mac, and does not upload your file names, file contents, folder paths, scan results, process list, or cleanup history.

1. About this policy

This Privacy Policy explains how CleanOS ("CleanOS", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use the CleanOS macOS application, whether downloaded from the Mac App Store or distributed directly by us.

2. Information processed locally

To provide storage analysis, duplicate detection, cleanup recommendations, application management, and system monitoring, CleanOS may process the following information on your Mac:

This information is processed on your device. CleanOS does not upload file contents or the local scan information listed above to us.

3. File access and permissions

CleanOS accesses files only to provide features you initiate, such as storage scanning, finding large or duplicate files, reviewing cleanup candidates, and uninstalling applications.

The Direct edition may ask you to grant Full Disk Access to improve scan coverage for protected locations. The Mac App Store edition may ask you to select folders and grant access through macOS. You can revoke these permissions in macOS System Settings. Without permission, some folders may be skipped or reported as unavailable.

4. Cleanup operations

CleanOS presents reviewable paths before cleanup actions. Files selected for cleanup are moved to the macOS Trash rather than intentionally erased permanently. You remain responsible for reviewing selections before confirming an action and for managing items in Trash.

5. Purchases and license information

Mac App Store edition: purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple through StoreKit and are subject to Apple's privacy policy. CleanOS receives entitlement information needed to determine whether paid features are available. We do not receive your full payment card details.

Direct edition: purchases, subscriptions, and license management may be processed by Lemon Squeezy, a Merchant of Record. Lemon Squeezy may process information such as your name, email address, billing details, country, transaction information, and license status according to its own privacy policy. CleanOS may exchange a license key, device activation identifier, and entitlement status with the licensing service. We do not receive your full payment card details.

6. Information we do not sell

We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not use your file contents, file names, folder paths, scan results, process list, or cleanup history for advertising or profiling.

7. Data stored on your Mac

CleanOS may store preferences in macOS user defaults and entitlement or trial information in the macOS Keychain. The App Store edition may store security-scoped bookmarks for folders you explicitly authorize. You can remove locally stored application data by uninstalling CleanOS and deleting its associated application data, subject to normal macOS and Keychain behavior.

8. Data retention

Local scan results are retained only as needed by the application session or local product functionality. Payment providers retain transaction and account information according to their legal obligations and privacy policies. License records may be retained while your license is active and for a reasonable period afterward for fraud prevention, accounting, support, and legal compliance.

9. Security

We use platform security features and reasonable technical safeguards appropriate to the information handled by CleanOS. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children's privacy

CleanOS is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when CleanOS features, service providers, or legal requirements change. We will update the effective date on this page. Material changes will be communicated through the application, website, or release notes where appropriate.
